Fights in parking lots usually involve too many cars and not enough spaces. That is not the situation in one district of Central Phoenix.

Developers want to build a 15-story, 125-unit high-rise luxury condo on land that's currently Phoenix Country Club's parking lot.

Some neighbors are passionately opposed.

They worry the building will not fit in with the nearby historic neighborhoods featuring homes built from the early teens to the 1930s.

Others welcome a project they hope will spur development near 7th Street and Thomas Road, an intersection that's bordered by a closed down gas station and empty office space.

The land would need to be re-zoned from strictly parking to a multi-family high-rise designation. The city council is expected to vote on the measure November 7th.
