Responding firefighter detained at scene of crash in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - Two people were transported to the hospital after a car struck a construction barrier on northbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, and amid all of the chaos a responding firefighter was detained by police.

The crash was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. south of Telegraph Canyon Road. A car heading northbound on I-805 hit a concrete construction barrier, overturned and ended up in the middle of the construction site.

The driver and passenger were transported to a hospital to be treated. The extent of their injuries and their conditions were unknown. There is also no word on whether speed or alcohol was involved.

An unusual incident took place during the response to the accident. According to officials, a firefighter responding to the crash parked in the No. 1 lane on southbound I-805 and California Highway Patrol officers told him to move.

He did not move the engine and ended up detained and in handcuffs inside a CHP patrol car. He was later released. The exact details that led to the incident were unclear.
