TARRANT, AL - When a mom resorted to stealing in order to feed her hungry children, the police officer gave her a hug instead of locking her in handcuffs.
As reported by ABC 3340's Marissa Mitchell, poverty is a big issue in the small town of Tarrant, Alabama.
Last Saturday, a woman was caught stealing eggs from a Dollar General, said Tarrant Police Chief Dennis Reno.
"She (told the officer) my kids are hungry and I need to put some food in their bellies," Reno said.
Instead of arresting her, the police officer bought the woman groceries.
A bystanding customer caught the act of compassion on camera.
