N.J. homeless man found hiding under child's bed

FAIR LAWN, N.J. - A New Jersey soldier’s wife said she was home alone with her two young kids when she found a homeless man hiding under one of their beds, WABC reported.

Darla Donohue said her husband is overseas, so she was shocked to hear someone shaking her son’s piggy bank while both of her kids were sleeping in her room early Thursday morning.

She quietly went into her 6-year-old son’s bedroom and found Kenneth Webb, 56, hiding under her son’s bed holding some change, a jewelry box and a knife, officers with the Fair Lawn Police Department said.

"I picked up the billy club I keep by my bed and I dialed 911," Donohue said, thinking, "I hope he doesn't have a gun, because this club is all I have."

Police believe Webb climbed a construction horse, opened a window and cut a screen to get into the home.

Webb faces charges of burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Webb was being held at the Bergen County Jail on $35,000 bail.
