Kids trade in toy guns for toys in New Jersey

Newark, N.J. - A community group in Newark, New Jersey is trying to stop gun violence before it starts, with a toy gun trade-in.

They held a toy gun exchange Friday afternoon.

Kids were invited to turn in water pistols, cap guns, replica firearms and get books, sports equipment and other toys.

Critics of the program say there is no link between toy guns and violence.

The community group says the goal is to teach children to take guns seriously and not as toys.

It is the third year of the exchange in Newark.
