Time running out on free Windows 10 upgrade

In a few weeks, the free Windows 10 upgrade will no longer be free.

As of July 29, it will cost between $100 and $200. A lot of you told me you don't want it, and you're annoyed by the pop-up reminders.

But if you're on the fence, there's a way to buy yourself some more time so you don't have to buy the upgrade.

"Allow Windows 10 to upgrade on your machine and then you can roll it back," says Ken Colburn of Data Doctors.

Colburn says you have 30 days from the download to roll back to your old system. But with that action, "Microsoft leaves a code, saying this physical machine qualifies for a free upgrade forever."

So, if you decide months down the line you want the upgrade, you can get it for free even though the price went up.

Colburn warns if your computer is slow or there are pop-ups you can't control, don't download until your machine has been cleaned. He says make sure all of your data is backed up, and don't stop the download once it's begun, because that could cause damage.
