Small businesses concerned about home improvement show organized by Super 3 Expo

PHOENIX - They paid hefty fees to be part of a home expo in August, but some small business owners have been worried it will never happen.

It's called the Home Renovation and DIY Expo at the Phoenix Convention Center.

At least two business owners asked for refunds and let me know about their concerns in May.

Jenny Olds owns Home Comfort Care. She says she signed up for the expo when it was scheduled for April.

Then it was moved to May and she asked for her money back.

She says she was promised she'd get it, but it took months. Finally, this week, she received $525 in money orders. It's a full refund.

Super 3 Expo is the business behind the expo. They operate out of a North Phoenix business complex.

In May, we went to the business and tried to get answers about the re-scheduling and refunds.

But they called the landlord and we were told to leave.

Bob Rieser is another business owner who signed up for the expo.

He wanted the May dates, but says it was moved again to July.

That's when he asked for a refund.

Bob owns Go Green Best Price Water Systems and like Jenny, thought the expo would be good for business.

He paid more than $1,000.

But after Bob appeared in a story we aired about this, he received an email from Super 3 Expo saying, "we agreed if channel 15 reported on the Super 3 Expo and you were on there you will not a get a refund, but a summons."

Now, the expo is scheduled for late August. That makes four different dates for the same Expo.

Jenny and Bob say they worry it may never happen and other vendors could lose money.
The Phoenix Convention Center says while Super 3 Expo has shown interest in all of the dates, they only received one payment and that check bounced.

As for the August dates, a center spokesperson says, "at this time we have not received a signed contract nor payment from Super 3 Expo."

Their deadline is Friday, July 12 at 5 p.m.

I asked Super 3 Expo about the August dates and the refunds. Owner Chris Mason said, "all vendors who canceled are receiving their refunds. The rest of the show is not your business."
