More people were killed in car crashes in Arizona in 2016 than the year before, according to data just released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On Friday, the NHTSA released their 2016 crash data in their Fatality Analysis Reporting System, including a state-by-state breakdown of fatal crashes.

Arizona had 962 crash fatalities compared to 897 in 2015. This 7 percent increase is just above the national average of 6 percent.

There is some good news in the data; the state saw an almost 14 percent drop in alcohol-related fatal car crashes between the two years. A total of 232 alcohol-related fatalities occurred in Arizona in 2016, compared to 269 in 2015.

A total of 37,461 crash fatalities occurred across the nation in 2016.
