Authorities say a suspect is in custody after allegedly kidnapping a nine-year-old girl in Phoenix.

On Friday, officers responded to the area of 19th and Glendale avenues around 4 a.m. after receiving reports of unknown trouble.

According to a police spokesperson, a nine-year-old girl asked witnesses for help after being taken from her home by a suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Dakota Johnson.

The girl reportedly told police that she was awoken by hearing her bedroom window opening. Johnson then reached in and picked her up.

He allegedly carried her over his shoulder, across the light rail tracks to another apartment complex, about a quarter-mile away.

The girl pretended to be asleep, and when he put her down near a trash can, she ran away and found help.

The girl wasn’t injured during the incident, officials said.

Officers located the victim’s home near Glendale and 21st avenues.

Authorities continued searching for the suspect and detained Johnson around 12:30 a.m. Saturday around 18th and Glendale avenues.

Upon his arrest, Johnson claimed he found the girl near the trash can and was only assisting her.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond for kidnapping.
