A man has been arrested for breaking down the door of his estranged ex-wife and attacking a man inside with the remnants of the door.

Phoenix Police report that on May 27 about 4 a.m. they were called to a home near Ellsworth Road and University Drive. A neighbor contacted them after his doorbell rang and he saw a bloodied man at his door asking for help.

The neighbor reportedly saw the suspect, 31-year-old Jacob Parley Butler, come after the victim, pick up a metal watering can and strike the victim about the head and face. Butler then left the area in a vehicle.

The victim reported to police that he was sleeping with his girlfriend when Butler broke down the door and began attacking him by "striking him with pieces of the broken door." Police also reported that the victim required stitches and staples to close the injuries he sustained and may be permanently scarred.

The victim’s girlfriend allegedly told police that she and Butler have been divorced for about two years, but text messages had been exchanged the day prior.

Butler was arrested on June 6 and has been charged with burglary.
