A Phoenix man steals a golf cart to flee from police after assaulting a man.

Court records show that a homeless man used a stolen golf cart as his means to escape, after reportedly assaulting a man at a light rail platform in Phoenix.

Police report that on July 26, John Michael Leddy, 40, was at the light rail platform near Central Avenue and McDowell Road. He reportedly assaulted another man there, striking him with his fist several times then running away.

Police say he made it to an apartment complex across the street where he allegedly stole a golf cart. Leddy drove the golf cart several blocks before crashing it near 10th and Grand Avenues.

Police found him hiding under a fountain near 10th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Several witnesses identified Leddy as the man who stole the golf cart and assaulted the man at the light rail platform.

Leddy has been charged with assault and theft of a means of transportation.
