A Mesa woman accused her boyfriend of stabbing her, but surveillance video shows police a different story.

Mesa police report that on October 8, they responded to a motel near Extension Road and Main Street. There they found 41-year-old Sarah Jaclyn Smith bleeding from her hand and arm.

Smith reportedly told police that her boyfriend stabbed her and the motel door.

However, police reviewed surveillance video at the motel and allegedly saw that it was Smith who chased down her boyfriend while he was trying to leave on a bicycle.

In the video, police reportedly saw Smith stab the bike tires and chase her boyfriend as he retreated into the motel room. She is then reportedly seen stabbing the door.

Her boyfriend allegedly told police that he opened the door, and Smith came in and tried to stab him, but he knocked the knife out of her hand with a chair.

He then took the knife and left.

Smith later changed her story and admitted to her actions, saying she cut herself when stabbing the bike tires.

She's been charged with disorderly conduct and false reporting.
