A man was caught by Phoenix police after five successful escape attempts, including a 120 mph high-speed chase on Interstate 10 near Quartzsite.

Phoenix police report that on May 8 Yosell Mojena Valdes stole cologne from the JCPenney and Target stores near 46th Street and Cactus Road.

Police managed to block his car from behind in the parking lot. As the car in front of him was pulling out, police tried to block him in from the front. Valdes then reportedly accelerated, nearly hitting the police car, and fled.

On June, 24 Valdes struck again by stealing items from a Home Depot. He was detained by store security but escaped from their office. Officers spotted him on the street, but he managed to elude them in his car once again.

Valdes was located by police two other times but sped away at high speeds driving erratically, even ramming a police car six times, as he tried to escape.

Police were able to identify Valdes as the suspect and on July 22 when they "pinged" his phone and located him on Interstate 10 near Quartzsite trying to get to California. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers reportedly chased Valdes for 50 miles at speeds of about 120 mph. After being spiked, Valdes crashed his car near a canal but again was able to escape into the thick brush and water.

Two days later, Valdes' luck ran out when he was spotted in Tempe and apprehended by police.

Valdes reportedly admitted to police that he regularly shoplifted cologne to sell or trade for "spice."

He admitted being high on spice when he rammed the police car. He said he fled from police each time out of fear of deportation.

He's been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful flight.
