An elderly Mesa woman discovered a friend she allowed to stay in her home stole a class ring belonging to her late son, according to police.

Mesa police report they were called to a home near Power and Broadway roads for a report of a theft.

The victim, who is in her 90's, reportedly told police that she was helping a friend by allowing 65-year-old David Glen Hemming to stay at her home.

The woman allegedly found several items belonging to her in Hemming's room.

Police say that over a four-month period, Hemming stole about $4,000 in cash and jewelry from the victim. This included gold teeth and a 1970 Mesa High School class ring that belonged to the victim’s deceased son.

As police investigated, they reportedly found eight pawn transactions involving 15 stolen items including the gold teeth and class ring. The sales were allegedly traced back to Hemming.

Hemming has been charged with several counts of trafficking in stolen property.
