An Ahwatukee man has been arrested for firing shots and striking an officer's home.
Phoenix police report that on May 20 several shots were fired outside a home in Ahwatukee. One of the shots struck and went through the garage door of a Phoenix police officer. No one was home at the time of the incident.
Police say they found five .40 caliber shell casings outside the home near 48th Street and Elliot. One bullet reportedly went through the garage door and an interior wall.
Neighbors reported to police that they heard several shots fired that night. They also told police that there is a home down the street that was having a party that night.
Police interviewed people at the home who allegedly told them 22-year-old Ian Andrew Melton was at the party but was asked to leave. They say Melton was "acting erratically," and pulled out a .40 caliber handgun.
Multiple witnesses reported that Melton is "anti-police," and knew an officer lived at the home down the street since he had once lived in that neighborhood. They say shortly after he left the house they heard gunshots.
On June 6, Melton was arrested at his home. Police say while he admitted owning a .40 caliber handgun, he denied being at the party and requested an attorney.
Police say they found ammunition at his home with the same head stamp as the casing found at the scene.
Melton has been charged with discharging a firearm at a structure, disorderly conduct and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
