PHOENIX — Witnesses are credited with helping Department of Public Safety troopers in finding a suspected DUI hit-and-run driver recently.
DPS reports that on December 5, they responded to a hit-and-run collision on Interstate 10 near 67th Avenue.
Troopers soon found out, that when the vehicle causing the crash fled the area, two witnesses followed it.
The witnesses contacted DPS when the suspect's vehicle stopped at a parking lot near 75th Avenue and McDowell Road.
The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Praxedis Saul Gonzalez, fled on foot, but was soon caught by responding troopers.
DPS says Gonzalez was driving on a suspended license and said he ran because, "he was afraid of the government."
Gonzalez allegedly had a .125 BAC in his preliminary breathe test.
He has been charged with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
