Want to feel like a slouch?  Read on.

According to the latest CreditCards.com report, about 34 million U.S. adults have already begun their holiday shopping and about one million are done.  If you're not one of those people, maybe you fall into this category -- 74 percent are rolling their eyes about the early start to the season.

“Most Americans are annoyed by these overachievers,” said Matt Schulz, CreditCards.com’s senior industry analyst. “The majority thinks stores should begin putting up their holiday displays and advertising holiday sales around Thanksgiving.”

Don't get mad at the retailers though.  Some have a good reason for rolling out the tinsel early.  Hobby Lobby stocks the Christmas shelves June 1 because the retailer “has two seasons: spring and Christmas”  spokesman Bob Miller told CreditCards.com, and many of the chain’s customers are craft designers who need the materials early to make products for the holiday season.  Other retailers said they start early simply because there are customers who want them to.

“If the consumers are asking for holiday products earlier in the year, you are more than likely to see retailers start having a small assortment by late summer and build up their inventory as we move into the holiday season,” says Ana Serafin Smith, spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation, a trade group. “It is natural that retailers are reacting to this trend.”

Don't worry.  There are are still 87 shopping days before Christmas.

The CreditCards.com holiday shopping survey was conducted by telephone interviews with 1,000 adults by Princeton Survey Research Associates International.
