The History of Sky Ranch Lodge, Sedona, Arizona

The history of Sky Ranch Lodge began in 1977, co-founded and built by the John Joynt and the Gary Graham family. Water had to be brought in by local contractors and generators used to power the construction. The swimming pool area was originally dug to build the Sedona airport run ways. This area was chosen to build the pool where guests could relax out of the wind.

In 1982 Sky Ranch Lodge was opened with a lobby, office, twenty rooms and pool. The guests could walk to the Outlook to enjoy the majestic mountain views of Coffee Pot, Thunder Mountain, The Sphinx and Chimney Rock. Sky Ranch Lodge became increasingly well visited overtime as construction continued between 1982 and 1995, thus resulting in the final completion of a total of 94 rooms.

John Joynt was the architect, merging his ideas, after the historical Ghost Ranch Lodge Hotel in Tucson. His wife Isabel was the inspiration that became Sky Ranch Lodge. Isabel was also a well known artist in Sedona, where much of her work can be seen today in the rooms. Their son-in-law, Gary Graham created the magnificent grounds, winning many local awards for his landscaping. The history wouldn't be complete without the entire family working tirelessly to create what Sky Ranch Lodge has become today.

One of the jewels of the property is the Sky Ranch Lodge Wedding and Events venue. There the most stunning natural scenery, the world has to offer, can be viewed. The Joynt/Graham legacy lives on with their son, John Graham, President. This property continues to be a one of a kind quaint and rustic landmark.
