On Tuesday, Sept. 10, ABC15 will host a phone bank from 9 - 10 a.m. and 4 - 7 p.m. to collect cash donations for the effort. Those donations will go towards the program including buying bike supplies like tubes, tires, new seats and cleaning supplies.

On Friday, Sept. 21, ABC15 will be live from Earnhardt Lexus in Phoenix from 11a.m. - noon and from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. encouraging people to donate bikes.

The Arizona Association for Foster & Adoptive Parents will help distribute all the bicycles collected during the drive to children during this winter's holiday season. The organization's goal is to support, educate, empower and provide a unified voice for Arizona's foster and adoptive families and to increase the well-being and stability of the state's most vulnerable children.

According to Arizona Department of Child Safety, currently there are over 13,000 children in the foster care system. Many times, they enter foster care with no more than the clothes on their back. Our partners at Recycle Your Bicycle want to make sure every child can participate in a normal part of growing up - riding a bike.

"We are so grateful to the entire community, ABC15 and Earnhardt Auto Centers for their help serving kids in foster care across Arizona with the Recycle Your Bicycle program," said Joe Jacober, coordinator of the Recycle Your Bicycle program. "Getting your first bike is a memory our volunteers believe every child should have and this program makes it possible for more than 1,000 kids in foster care again this year."

Recycle your Bicycle started in 2009 with one volunteer and one bike. Over the years, it has grown into a year-round collection effort. In 2018, the program distributed more than 1,300 bikes.

"Earnhardt Auto Centers has partnered with ABC15 and the Recycle Your Bicycle Program for several years. The participation from the Phoenix community, combined with the enthusiasm of our staff has just been amazing," said Tex Earnhardt, founder, Earnhardt Auto Centers. "The number of bicycles donated is growing each year and as a result, even more deserving kids in the Arizona Foster Care Program have benefited. We absolutely love this program and are looking forward to participating again this year."
