She's a pediatrician at Banner Health Center. He's a physical education teacher at Butterfield Elementary School. Almost every night, they and their two children can be found walking down many winding trails or hopping on their bikes to check out what's going on in the neighborhood.

Raised in a military family, Dr. Sorenson was used to moving a lot. She and Steve wanted to put down roots in a safe community with big-city options, but with a small-town feel. Having lived in various parts of Arizona, nothing came close to living in Maricopa.

We wanted a place that had neighbors in their actual front yards visiting with each other. We love that there's a park nearby, and we can zip to almost any activity for our kids in just a matter of minutes."
In addition to mountain views, outdoor trails, dramatic sunsets, and pristine skies, Maricopa is home to several treasures, including the largest regional park in Arizona; a multi-use fitness and recreation complex; an aquatic center; outdoor sports fields; a dog park; an amphitheater; a major entertainment center; a five-acre lake stocked with fish; and two championship golf courses.
"Maricopa has a relaxing, small-town vibe that makes you feel right at home," said City of Maricopa Mayor Christian Price, as he read to children at Maricopa Public Library, which serves as a community gathering place and welcomes more than 12,000 attendees to children's story times and literacy programs each year. "Maricopa is a great place to raise a family, build a business, follow a dream or enjoy retirement."
Steve Sorenson feels the same way. As a teacher for the Maricopa Unified School District, he was immediately taken by everything about Butterfield Elementary School from the moment he walked in the doors.
"When we moved to Maricopa, our kids were 2 and 5 years old," he said. "Now they're 7 and 10 years old. It's been amazing to watch them flourish in a such a well-connected, family-friendly community."
The city is a thriving hub where everyone knows their neighbors' names.
"My friends and family often ask us, 'What's next? Where do you see yourselves in a few years from now?'" said Dr. Sorenson. "My response is, 'absolutely nowhere but Maricopa.' We've truly found the perfect location for our family."
