SCOTTSDALE, AZ — It seems sad to write about a burger joint closing up shop on National Burger Day, but here we are.

Killer Burger, a popular Portland, Oregon-based burger chain mainly in Oregon and Washington, has closed its restaurant in Scottsdale. It was open for about a year and was the chain's only location outside of the Pacific Northwest.

The last day was Friday, May 24.

"It definitely wasn’t an easy decision and we very much appreciate the support the community has shown us this past year," said Katherine Raymond, Killer Burger's marketing coordinator, in an emailed statement.

The restaurant's food truck was in the Valley for the winter, but has since moved back to Portland where it will be for the summer, she said. It was not clear if it would make it back to Phoenix.

"After that, who knows," said Raymond. "We're kind of playing it by ear."

Each of Killer's burgers featured a 1/3-pound patty, bacon, and fries -- all included in the price.
