One of Roosevelt Row's late-night stops for coffee and crepes will close its doors this month.
Jobot Coffee & Diner, located near Fifth and Roosevelt streets, announced the news on its Facebook pageWednesday morning.
"It seems now that Jobots time has come to pass the torch like so many before. It goes without saying that this decision does not come easy and is only because every effort to secure our building was unsuccessful. We are not at all prepared for this move so our next steps are still being determined," the coffee shop said in a lengthy Facebook post.
"There are no hard feelings towards the landowner as we understand sometimes business is business and this unfortunately is one of those times."
Jobot's last day will be either Dec. 23 or 24, according to the Facebookpost. They will move out of the building on Dec. 26.
The post said the closure will affect "30 great people" and asked its fans to share any possible job opportunities with them.
However, there is hope that Jobot will return.
According to the post, they will attempt to bring some of their coffee and pastries to Melt -- a local ice cream shop a few places down -- at least temporarily "until a better solution can be found."
Jobot's closure also ends plans to build a full-service bar behind the coffee shop.
"Thank you everyone for your years of support. I know to many of you this place means as much to you as it does me. If you catch me getting teared up over the next few weeks you know why, but I understand this; the pioneering spirit of 5th street street lives on. It's the spirit of the arts district. You hear a lot of talk that big business has squashed the arts district. It hasn't. We are still here. This is Phoenix," the post ended.
In October, a Chandler developer revealed its plans to renovate the Flowers building and three bungalow-style homes, which are across the street from Jobot. View those plans.
As a result, Flowers Craft Beer, which is owned by the same people as Jobot, is shutting its doors when it runs out of stock. The deli is already closed, according to their social media representative. The lease terms for the new-build were too high and there are "no plans for the future of Flowers," the rep. said.
Nearly 100 people had left comments of sympathy on Jobot's Facebook page and tagged friends to share the news, while others posted memories on the page's wall.
