BUCKEYE, AZ — The City of Buckeye has canceled its Fourth of July fireworks show, citing the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Arizona.

"We apologize for any inconvenience," the city said in a statement.

The event was initially planned to take place at Youngker High School on Saturday, July 4, where it is normally held. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the city turned the event into a drive-in-style event.

Anthem, Avondale, Fountain Hills, Phoenix, and Tempe have also canceled their Fourth of July events. Fort McDowell Casino and Westgate Entertainment District will also not have fireworks this year.

Fireworks are still planned to go off in Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Maricopa, Mesa, Peoria, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and Surprise.
