Whether you are contemplating quitting smoking or ready to start today, you likely have a lot of questions.
Consider working with a Quit Coach at ASHLine. A Quit Coach will help you every step of the way and hold you accountable.
Here are some frequently asked questions people have about Quit Coaches and how they can help you on your Quit Journey.
1) What will my Quit Coach do to help me?
Think of your coach like a personal trainer. Based on a schedule you create together, you will have 6-7 phone sessions with your coach. Your coach will help you create a customized plan just for you.
During your initial call, you’ll work on:
● Defining your custom Quit Plan
● Setting a quit date
● Determining your tobacco triggers
● Finding the best times and ways to stay in contact
2) When is my Quit Coach available?
Quit Coaches are typically available:
● Monday - Thursday: 7:00 am – 8:00 pm
● Friday: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
Your coach will encourage you to call in or text during off hours, and you’ll also discuss ways to gain support from family and friends.
3) How do I know I’ll get the right Quit Coach for me?
Everyone’s quit journey is unique. During your first call with ASHLine, an enrollment specialist will ask you questions that help us match you with the Quit Coach we think is just right for you.

4) I don’t want to be made to feel guilty. Will my coach understand what I’m going through?
Absolutely. Quit coaches are here to help, not judge. Coaches are selected on their genuine ability to empathize with you. They may even be former smokers themselves. Most importantly, each is trained extensively to listen and help you meet your objectives around quitting tobacco with non-judgmental, unconditional support.

5) How will my Quit Coach help me cope?
● When you initially sign up, ASHLine will offer you up to four weeks of quit medications like gum, patches or lozenges if you’re eligible. Your Coach can talk to you about your eligibility.* When combined with coaching, the use of quit medications doubles your chances of successfully quitting tobacco.
● Your Coach is just a text away. Many choose to call and text their coaches as the primary way to stay in touch and get support. During your initial call with ASHLine, make sure to mention this if this works for you!
● Your Quit Coach will help you identify the coping strategies that work for you.
From taking a walk or run, distracting your hands and mouth munching on healthy snacks to taking a long, relaxing shower, your Quit Coach will work with you to come up with realistic and accessible coping strategies specifically designed for you.
6) What is a “Quit Plan” exactly, and how does it work?
It’s helpful to know there are as many Quit Plans as there are quitters. Your Quit Coach will approach your plan differently if you have already quit and are looking to avoid relapsing, or if you’re months away from beginning the process. Your Quit Plan will be unique for you.
Here are some things you might find in your Quit Plan:
● Determining your reasons for quitting
● Identifying your triggers
● Creating a plan to tell your family and friends and recruit their support
● Preventing relapse
Your plan may be twice as long or just three or four key areas of focus. Just remember, the best Quit Plan is your Quit Plan.
