PD: 5 Chandler schools off lockdown after report of armed man in area

CHANDLER, AZ - UPDATE: Police say this suspect is the same man involved in an officer-involved shooting in Chandler Monday afternoon.

Chandler High School and four other schools were on lockdown on Monday after authorities received a call of an armed man in the area.

Chandler police said the situation started at 8:30 a.m. when they received a phone call about an adult female with an arrest warrant.

An Officer was en route to the home when they saw the suspect(s) leave the area. The officer followed the van and attempted a traffic stop. The van fled, the officer did not follow the van and was unable to locate the individuals inside, police said.

Shortly after, two witnesses called police and reported a man with rifle or shotgun in a van at a trailer park near Erie and Hamilton Streets.

The SWAT team was called to scene, the individuals were not found in the van or in the area.

Chandler police are still investigating, but said the suspect does not pose a threat to the public.

Angelica Miranda, who lives in a mobile home park off East Erie St., said the suspect approached her outside her home and pointed his gun at her.

"Everything was flashing before my eyes," Miranda said.

"I was thinking 'Oh, he's going to kill me.'"

Miranda started backing up, then the suspect ran away.

The SWAT team searched Miranda’s neighborhood, and did not locate the suspect.

Sabrina Torres lives a block away.

When she came home and saw police searching for the gunman, she searched her home, afraid the man might have hidden in her house.

Her heart "dropped" when she realized someone hiding in her home was a possibility, she said.

She did not find anything in the search.

Police locked down Chandler High School, Galveston Elementary, Frye Elementary, St. Mary Basha Catholic, and Chandler Christian Academy for precautionary reasons as they searched for the individuals.

Chandler High School is located near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.
