According to the criteria of the NWS, the high temperature has to AVERAGE for a period of five minutes. The way the temperature is taken is that it is recorded every minute. So for example, if in a five-minute span it hits 100 for three of those minutes, that makes it "official."
Sunday we actually did it three times (1:15, 3:30, and 4:16).

Here are some tips to remember to help with the heat:
Drink plenty of water!
Avoid alcohol and caffeine which can dehydrate your body.
Eat small meals and eat often.
Avoid foods high in protein that increase metabolic heat.
Wear lightweight, light colored clothes to reflect away some of the sun's rays.
