Arizona Department of Transportation workers were busy playing catch up Monday evening cleaning up flooded waters along I-17 after pumps couldn't keep up with the rain.
The flooded water accumulated in pockets along I-17, but the underpass near the Greenway exit was one of the hardest hit.
"I think we saw about two inches of rain in a span of an hour," said ADOT spokesperson Doug Nintzel.
For low lying areas along I-17, there are two pumps to help drain rain water. ADOT said the second pump for the Greenway exit is broken, leaving plenty for crews to clean up.
Drivers need to be prepared if happens again. There could be some localized flooding.
"I hope we don't have an exact repeat where we have that much rainfall up and down the I-17 corridor," said Nintzel.
