Work is planned for several freeways this weekend in the Valley, including big closures on I-10 in the West Valley and Loop 101 through Scottsdale. The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes and use caution while the following restrictions are in place:
Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between McDonald Drive and McKellips Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (July 11) for widening project work, including permanent lane striping and bridge deck joint installation. Southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Via De Ventura and Indian Bend Road also closed. DETOUR: To avoid heavy traffic backups, please consider alternate freeway routes, including southbound State Route 51 and southbound Interstate 17. Southbound Loop 101 traffic exiting at McDonald Drive will detour to southbound Hayden Road and can re-enter freeway at McKellips Road.
Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 99th and 83rd avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (July 9) for installation of overhead message signs. Southbound Loop 101 ramp to eastbound I-10 and the eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound Loop 101 also closed. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at Avondale Boulevard and 107th Avenue closed. DETOUR: Please consider exiting well ahead of closure and using alternate routes. Traffic can detour along eastbound McDowell Road. Commercial truck traffic can detour along eastbound Buckeye Road. Allow extra travel time.
Westbound Interstate 10 ramp to northbound Loop 303 in Goodyear closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (July 11) for construction. Northbound Loop 303 left lane closed between I-10 interchange and Thomas Road for temporary barrier wall work. DETOUR: Drivers on westbound I-10 can connect with northbound Loop 303 by exiting at Sarival Avenue and using westbound McDowell Road to northbound Cotton Lane.
Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane in both directions between Dysart and Litchfield roads in Surprise from 8 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday (July 10) for bridge work. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and use caution in work zone near Bell Road.
Interstate 17 closed intermittently overnight (up to 15 minutes each time) from 11 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday (July 10) for Salt River Project utility line installation. Southbound I-17 on-ramp at Dunlap Avenue and northbound on-ramp at Northern Avenue closed starting at 10 p.m. Saturday. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and use caution when traffic is slowing or temporarily stopped.
