A few big closures and restrictions are happening on Valley freeways this weekend. Both Interstate 10 in central Phoenix and Loop 101 through Scottsdale are shut down for improvement projects, but it is weather dependent. The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra travel time, use caution and consider alternate routes while the following scheduled restrictions are in place:
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) right merge lanes and on- and off-ramps between Chaparral and Indian Bend roads closed from 11:30 p.m. Thursday to 10 p.m. Friday (Aug. 19) for rubberized asphalt paving. Northbound ramps at McDonald Drive and on-ramp at Indian Bend Road also closed. DETOUR: Please plan ahead to use other ramps, including the northbound off-ramp at Chaparral Road or northbound on-ramp at Via De Ventura.
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Chaparral Road and Via De Ventura from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 22) for rubberized asphalt paving. Expect heavy traffic delays. DETOUR: Alternate northbound freeway routes include State Route 51 or Interstate 17. Northbound Loop 101 traffic exiting at Chaparral Road will detour to northbound Pima Road and eastbound Via De Ventura, but expect slow traffic and allow extra travel time. Note: Northbound Loop 101 HOV lane also closed between Via De Ventura and Shea Boulevard.
Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between the I-17 “Stack” interchange and the State Route 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) for tunnel maintenance. Both I-17 ramps to eastbound I-10 at the Stack closed. DETOUR: Eastbound I-10 traffic will detour to southbound I-17 and can reconnect with eastbound I-10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Westbound Interstate 10 closed between the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 21) for tunnel maintenance. Southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10 also closed. DETOUR: Westbound I-10 traffic will detour to northbound I-17 near the airport and can reconnect with I-10 at the Stack interchange north of Van Buren Street.
Eastbound Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes near Loop 303 in West Valley from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 20-21) for pavement repair. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and be alert for construction crews and equipment. Consider using eastbound McDowell Road or Van Buren Street as alternate routes to travel beyond the I-10 restriction.
Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes in both directions between Baseline and Guadalupe roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) for barrier-wall repairs. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and be alert for highway workers and equipment in work zones.
Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) narrowed to two lanes overnight east of Dobson Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) for overhead sign work. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and be alert for highway workers and equipment in work zone.
