How to avoid freeway closures this weekend

PHOENIX - Freeway improvement work will require some restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for closures along State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) north of Interstate 10 and a closure of eastbound Loop 101 near I-17. Drivers should consider alternate routes while the following freeway closures are in place:

  • Northbound State Route 143 closed between Interstate 10 and McDowell Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 11:30 a.m. Saturday (June 29) for lane striping. DETOUR: Westbound I-10 drivers can exit at Buckeye Road to access Sky Harbor Airport's west entrance.
  • Southbound State Route 143 closed between Interstate 10 and McDowell Road from 10 p.m. Saturday to 11:30 a.m. Sunday (June 30) for lane striping. DETOUR: Southbound State Route 143 exit to Sky Harbor Airport closed. Westbound Loop 202 exit to Sky Harbor will remain open. Drivers also can use eastbound Interstate 10 exit to Sky Harbor at airport's west entrance.
  • Eastbound Loop 101 closed between 35th Avenue and Seventh Street from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 11:30 p.m. Sunday (June 30) for final lane restriping. DETOUR: Traffic will use Beardsley frontage road and enter eastbound Loop 101 at Seventh Street. Please note: Loop 101 eastbound ramps to I-17 are scheduled to open by 6 a.m. Sunday.
  • Both Interstate 17 ramps to eastbound Loop 101 closed from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 11:30 p.m. Sunday (June 30) for final lane restriping. DETOUR: Southbound I-17 drivers can exit to eastbound Deer Valley Road and use southbound Seventh Street to reach Loop 101. Northbound I-17 drivers can exit to eastbound Union Hills Drive and use northbound Seventh Street to reach Loop 101.
