Avoid traffic delays on Valley freeways this weekend

PHOENIX - Improvement work along Valley freeways will require some closures or restrictions this weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Westbound Interstate 10 closed overnight between Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday(August 5) for tunnel maintenance. Ramps from southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202 to westbound I-10 closed. DETOUR: Westbound I-10 traffic can use northbound I-17 starting near Sky Harbor Airport to avoid tunnel closure. Westbound I-10 traffic exiting at Seventh Street will detour beyond closure on McDowell Road.
  • Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) ramp to southbound State Route 51 closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday (August 4) for sign installation. DETOUR: Consider alternate southbound routes. Please allow extra travel time.
  • Southbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) narrowed to one lane between Bell Road and Shea Boulevard from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday (August 4) for sign installation. Southbound SR 51 off-ramp at Bell Road closed. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.
  • Southbound State Route 51 narrowed to one lane between Shea Boulevard and Northern Avenue from 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday(August 5) for sign installation. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.
