Phoenix drivers: watch out for a big road closure that begins this weekend.

The City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department plans to close 32nd Street, directly north of Stanford Drive, for approximately two weeks starting Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016.

Drivers should essentially avoid 32nd Street between Lincoln Drive and Camelback Road for the next few weeks. Crews are repairing the bridge located over the canal at 32nd Street near Stanford Drive, and will need to shutdown the road for that work.

The specific closures and restrictions include:

  • Traffic on northbound 32nd Street will be restricted from continuing north of Stanford Drive.
  • Traffic on southbound 32nd Street will be restricted from continuing south of Stanford Drive.
  • Traffic on westbound Stanford Drive will be restricted from making a right turn at 32nd Street.

Expect heavy congestion in the area during this closure, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. Drives can use 24th Street as a detour while 32nd Street is closed.

The schedule for this street closure is subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.
