SOCHI, Russia - World champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White quickstepped their way to victory Saturday night in the team short dance at the Sochi Olympics.
The Americans earned 75.98 points, lifting the U.S. into the medals hunt.
Defending champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada were second even though she bobbled during their early set of twizzles, hurting the couple's synchronicity. They still received 72.98 points.
Russia's Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitiri Soloviev were third, keeping their nation in the overall lead heading into the women's competition that would conclude the short program portion of the new team event. Canada was second with 26 points, one behind the hosts. The U.S. moved up to third place with 20 points.
The pairs free skate, featuring the top five nations in the standings, were to follow the women. The team event ends Sunday night.
