Tulowitzki, Pomeranz debut for Rockies in win against Diamondbacks

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Troy Tulowitzki got a hit in his first game since having groin surgery and Drew Pomeranz gave up two runs on three hits in the Rockies' 11-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Fans made a massive turnout at the Salt River Fields, leading to a sellout crowd.

"You can't watch it on TV. You have to be here to take it all in," grandfather and Diamondbacks fan Mike Bourque said.

On the field, Josh Rutledge went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored twice for Colorado.

Rutledge had a two run single in the second and doubled in two runs during a three-run fourth.  Rockies Tim Wheeler and Kent Matthes each hit solo homers and Jonathan Herrera added three hits.

Diamondbacks top prospect Tyler Skaggs allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on four hits and struck out two in 1 2-3 innings.

It's hard to believe the beautiful game almost got snowed out. Just 48 hours prior to the first pitch, the green fields were entirely white, covered from a surprising desert snow storm.

Salt River Fields Manager Rob Brackett told ABC 15 ballpark maintenance crews had a lot of work ahead of them to make the field ready for the first game.

"For two and a half consecutive days, day and night, digging up the field and getting things dry. Drying the grass and making sure that this was still a world class field when the players took the field," Brackett said
