2014 NBA Playoffs: Suns belong in NBA Playoffs

PHOENIX, AZ - The Phoenix Suns got ripped off! They should absolutely be in the playoffs, not some of those “hack” teams from the East.

I realize it sounds like sour grapes but I’m telling you, the NBA needs to forget about this East vs. West format they’ve used far too long and move to a format that takes the top sixteen teams into the playoffs!

Just look at the standings this season, the best teams are in the West, yet a team like the Suns gets penalized because they’re in the stronger conference.

  1. San Antonio, 62-20 (W)
  2. Oklahoma City, 59-23 (W)
  3. Los Angeles Clippers, 57-25 (W)
  4. Indiana, 56-26 (E)
  5. Miami, 54-28 (E)
  6. Houston, 54-28 (W)
  7. Portland, 54-28 (W)
  8. Golden State, 51-31 (W)
  9. Memphis, 50-32 (W)
  10. Dallas, 49-33, (W)
  11. Phoenix Suns, 48-34 (W)
  12. Toronto, 48-34 (E)
  13. Chicago, 48-34 (E)
  14. Washington, 44-38 (E)
  15. Brooklyn, 44-38 (E)
  16. Charlotte, 43-39 (E)

The top ten are pretty straight forward, and if you go strictly by record, eight of the top ten teams are from the West.

And look which team comes in at number eleven: the Phoenix Suns, tied with the Raptors and Bulls with a 48-34 record.

All I’m saying is that the Suns are getting ripped off! Yes, they lost some key games at the end of the season so you can blame them for missing the playoffs, but they still have one of the best records in the NBA and just because they play in the West, they get left out.

Remind you of anything? The Arizona Cardinals finished the 2013 season with a 10-6 record but they didn’t make the playoffs either. And yet, the Green Bay Packers won the NFC North with an 8-7-1 record! It just isn’t right!

That’s Fouhy on Sports!
