PHOENIX, AZ - Get your helmet on, have Dad hit you with some bug spray and get ready for some Small Stars football!
As Coach Deandro puts his players through practice, he's never short on praise, "Oh big boy, you finally got it! Yeah, not you see what I'm talking about."
Welcome to SEV (Southeast Valley) football: from big hits to bear crawls, these Vikings mean business.
Coach with his whistle in hand, "Let's go, good job! Everybody up! Water break."
Although they look like high school players on the field, it's during water break that we discover they're still just 5, 6 and 7 years old.
We caught up with the Vikings quarterbacks to find out what they like best about calling the signals. Ethan says it's about the options the coaches give you. "Uh, you get to throw it or run it if you don't know the play."
Ok, that's an interesting strategy. Hopefully it works!
But Robert tells us, there's a lot more to it than just handing the ball off. "You, you have to check your line and make sure they're ready so that, their feet are lined up with mine, so they won't let anyone through, and, yeah."
And with that, the Vikings are back on the field, ready to work on moving their feet and hitting the bags.
Coach Deandro barks out the commands, "Down, up, good, good, now roll, roll, get up, get up, get up, get it Jesse. Good wrap up, good wrap up."
So Kevin, what position do you play? "I forgot, but I play posi… position."
Now that we have that straightened out, it's time for some "one on one:, "manu a manu", just you and me!
After the one on one drills, it's time to open up some holes. But while the offensive line and running backs are hard at work, Ben has found our microphone.
"This is aaaaddd, whup, whup, whup, whup, ‘em Gangnam style."
And while the drill continues, Ben is still focused on improving his musical talents.
"Thank you very much from Mr. Roboto domo."
And check out Rilen, number 71 on your screen, hitting everything in sight and still looking for more.
Congratulations SEV Vikings, you're this week's Small Stars!
