Caution flags are a common occurrence in NASCAR racing and fighting may be even more common. And that’s just on the track! Off the track, the fighting looks more like a reality show.
This past week, just days before Sunday’s Daytona 500, NASCAR legend Richard Petty opened his mouth and out came a quote that, well, he probably should have kept to himself.
When asked if Danica Patrick would ever win a NASCAR race, Petty said, and I quote, “If everybody else stayed home.” But he didn’t stop there! Petty added, “If she’s been a male, nobody would ever know if she showed up at a racetrack.”
Ouch! Nothing like throwing some more fuel on the fire! Back in 2006, Petty said, “I just don’t think it’s a sport for women.”
Here are the facts: Patrick is the only woman to win a major open wheel race and she has six top ten finishes in the Indy 500.
Oh, and by the way, Richard Petty is 76 years old! Clearly, there will be no new tricks for that old dog! Let the NASCAR season begin!
That’s Fouhy on Sports!
