Phoenix Suns to collect donations in honor of fallen officer John Hobbs

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns will host a monetary donation drive in honor of fallen Phoenix Police Department Detective John Hobbs, 43, prior to Thursday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at US Airways Center.

The donations will benefit the 100 Club of Arizona, a non-profit organization who provides financial support to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty, according to a Suns press release.

Monetary donations will be accepted at all entrances to US Airways Center from 5-7 p.m. before the game and anyone who donates will be entered to win Suns autographed merchandise, the Suns said.

A moment of silence will be observed prior to Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Det. Hobbs, 43, served in the Phoenix Police Department for 21 years .

He leaves behind a wife and three children, ages 10, 8 and 6.

The shooting that led to his death occurred Monday afternoon at 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
