PHOENIX - If you're a Suns fan and you were hoping for some immediate help from the draft, you'd better sit down and take a "chill pill."
Fact is, the Suns definitely drafted for the future, just not the immediate future.
Alex Len is over seven feet tall, but he's also 20 years old and a "project." Oh, he will play this next season, but don't expect him to be an All-Star quite yet!
I do like the pick because he's an athletic big man, can block shots and, as they say, "you can't coach height," but he definitely needs a little seasoning.
Len should be an exciting player to watch for years to come. Again, I like the pick. Big guys with athleticism are hard to come by in this league.
With the team's second pick, the Suns went with guard Archie Goodwin out of Kentucky. Another solid selection in my opinion, but Archie's just 18 years old and doesn't turn 19 until the middle of August.
Another solid pick for the future with a lot of upside, but I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of Archie Goodwin this next year.
Bottom line, Suns fans should be feeling pretty good about this year's draft, but it's going to take a little patience and a whole lot of support before we see these two guys wearing Western Conference All-Star uniforms! But again, it'll be fun to watch them both develop! Go Suns!
That's Fouhy on Sports!
