Friday Night Blitz: Highlights of Week 12 Quarter Finals

(6) Marcos de Niza Padres (7-4) at (2) Chaparral Firebirds (10-1)

A big quarterfinal match-up in Division II between the Marcos de Niza Padres and the Chaparral Firebirds.

Three minutes to go in the first, Chaparral with the ball on the Marcos 38 yard line. Sean Paul Brophy drops back and finds Israel Simpson down field for 31 yards. First and goal Firebirds at the Marcos three yard line. Two plays later, Tyler Whiley carries it in and the Firebirds take a 7-0 lead.

But with less than a minute to go in the first, Marcos quarterback Josh Eckley keeps it himself, rambles 29 yards, and we're tied at 7 at the end of one.

Late in the first half, Brophy throws to Simpson again, this one goes for 42 yards and Chaparral takes a 14-7 lead into halftime.

Chaparral advances with a 35-21 win over Marcos de Niza.


(7) Sabino Sabercats (9-2) at (2) Saguaro Sabercats (10-1)

Just down the street, it's a battle of the Sabercats! The Sabino Sabercats from Tucson, taking on the Saguaro Sabercats in Scottsdale. Opening drive, Saguaro's Luke Rubenzer finds J.T. Nettleton on the slant, and Nettleton stretches, but falls just short of the end zone.

Two plays later, Rubenzer finds Brett Adams for the easy touchdown and Saguaro goes on to beat Sabino 48-20. They'll take on Desert Edge next week.


(9) Red Mountain Mountain Lions (6-5) at (1) Mountain Pointe Pride (11-0)

In Ahwatukee, Red Mountain taking on the number one seed in Division I, the Mountain Pointe Pride.

Late in the first, Mountain Pointe with the ball. Quarterback Antonio Hinojosa throws to Jalen Brown. Brown shakes a few tackles and goes in for the touchdown! Fourteen to zero, Mountain Pointe.

Two minutes later, the Lions with the ball on their own 38. Caleb Murray-Thomas takes a big hit from Mitchell Fraboni and the ball comes loose. Trey Lauer picks it up and runs it in for the score.

Mountain Pointe continues its dominance… with a 48 to 7 win over Red Mountain.


(10) Basha Bears (6-5) at (2) Chandler Wolves (9-2)

A big Division I game in Chandler as the Basha Bears take on the #2 seed, Chandler Wolves.

Early in the fourth, Basha's Zach Werlinger keeps it himself and the Bears finally get into the end zone, 49-7 Chandler and that point.

Basha pulls off the on-side kick to perfection and a few plays later, Werlinger hands off to Rajahn Meriweather and it's 49-14 Chandler.

Just over a minute to go, Meriweather scores again and Basha scores 21 unanswered points. But it's too little, too late and Chandler wins the semi-final match-up, 49-21. The Wolves will face another district rival, the Hamilton Huskies next week in the semi-finals.


 (5) Peoria Panthers (11-0) at (4) Queen Creek Bulldogs (9-2)

Air15 covering this one as the 11-0 Peoria Panthers take on the 9-2 Queen Creek Bulldogs in the far east Valley.

The undefeated Panthers just not able to get anything going until the fourth quarter, but they do however, avoid being shut out. Queen Creek wins this one easily, 42-14.

They'll take on Williams Field next week in the Division III semifinals.


(#12) Deer Valley Skyhawks (8-3) at (#4) Centennial Coyotes (10-1)

In Division II, the Centennial Coyotes hosting the 12 seed, Deer Valley Skyhawks.

Air15 high overhead for this one, with the Skyhawks driving. Deer Valley puts together a four play, 44 yard drive. Amyer Armstrong caps it off with a 14 yard touchdown run and Deer Valley wins it 20-14.
