PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks will host a Memorial Day double header Monday against the Texas Rangers at Chase Field and honor fallen soldiers with a moment of silence before each game.
The first game will start at 12:40 p.m., and the second game will take place at 6:40 p.m. following a short break. During the break, the D-backs and the Phoenix Mercury are hosting a street fest with a beer garden, food trucks and music located at Fourth and Jackson streets.
Any fan holding a ticket to the Mercury home opener that day can show the ticket at the Chase Field box office to save $10 off any seat for the second game.
As part of the team's Memorial Day tribute, starting at 10 a.m. two-time USA Memory Champion Ron White will spend around 10 hours hand writing from memory the first and last names of every American casualty in Afghanistan on a blank 50-foot wall.
Every major league team will wear specially designed hats and jerseys in honor of Memorial Day. The jerseys will be auctioned after the games, and Major League Baseball will donate all of the net proceeds to veterans.
The first 5,000 fans aged 21 and over through the gate at the 12:40 p.m. game will receive a Diamondbacks Snapback Cap.
Tickets for both games start at $12.
