Dan Majerle named 13th head basketball coach at Grand Canyon University

Who would have guessed? Fourteen years in the NBA, five years as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns and now he's Head Men's Basketball Coach at Grand Canyon University.

Congratulations to Thunder Dan Majerle and congrats to Grand Canyon University for having the, well, uh, nerve to hire him!

It was just two months ago that I was feeling sorry for Majerle. The Suns had fired Alvin Gentry and they didn't give the job to Majerle, so Dan just walked away. He didn't sulk and he didn't say anything bad about the Suns, but you could tell he was hurt.

But instead of feeling sorry for himself, he took a step back and evaluated things. When Grand Canyon came calling, he was "all-in."

And I mean "all-in." In fact, I haven't seen Dan this excited in years!

Look, there's clearly going to be a learning curve for him. After all, those NCAA regulations and policies are seemingly endless, and the recruiting can be grueling. But with Majerle's approach to life, he'll adjust quickly and the ‘Lopes will be well on their way to a successful transition to Division I. Lopes Up!!

That's Fouhy on Sports!
