Cardinals training camp opens to the public Friday

GLENDALE, AZ - Training camp officially opens Thursday for the Arizona Cardinals but for the first time ever it's in Glendale and many fans and businesses don't know what to expect.

Kevin Palmer owns Just Sports. He says that training camp often brings out fans looking to get an up close look at the team. Because of that he's loaded up on what he calls signature items: Mini-footballs and helmets fans give to the players to sign.

"Training camp is such a casual thing. A lot more so than an actual game. Fans can interact with the players and since it's in Glendale this year I think a lot more people are going to show up," said Palmer.

The Cardinals moved training to Glendale from Flagstaff after failing to come to an agreement with Northern Arizona University.

Along with signature gear, Palmer is also stocking up on women's apparel. The 26 year veteran of the merchandising industry says that in the last year he's seen a huge rush of female fans. Selling so many jerseys and t-shirts he can hardly keep it in stock.

"We tried it, it sold. We got more, it sold. We got more, it sold," said Palmer

Players are expected to report to training camp Thursday afternoon.

The first official practice starts at 2 p.m. Friday. Practices will continue to be held at that time until Thursday, Aug. 22.

Public parking is available on the east side of the stadium. Fans should enter through gate 3.
