For twenty-three out of the past twenty-four years, the Arizona Cardinals have held training camp in Flagstaff. But one of the most enjoyed traditions could be going away. Cardinals fans, get ready to say good-bye to Flagstaff.
Cardinals President, Michael Bidwill told a large group of people gathered in Glendale this past week that he wants to hold training camp in Glendale because it'll make training camp more accessible to fans!
Come on Cardinals! Flagstaff is tradition! It's cooler, it's a fun two hour drive and it pumps about ten million dollars into the Flagstaff economy every summer.
The new plan is to practice inside University of Phoenix Stadium and give Valley fans a chance to see more of training camp. But is driving to Glendale in August really what fans want? I think people enjoy driving to Flagstaff and if nothing else, it gives us a chance to get out of the August heat for a few hours. (Or maybe a few days)
Apparently, a contract hasn't been signed just yet, but if Bidwill's already talking about it, I'm guessing it's about as done as it's going to get!
Frankly, I'm going to miss Flagstaff and I'm going to miss the traditional trek up and down the hill. I really do enjoy the high country in the summer!
But it's clearly out of my control! Welcome to Glendale!
That's Fouhy on Sports!
