ASU women's basketball team gets their first win of the season

The Sun Devils women's basketball team defeated the University of Northern Iowa 66-63 during the first day of play at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout, also giving the team their first win of the season.

Joy Burke helped lead the team with 14 points, while Micaela Pickens added 13. Both players tied their career high in scoring.

All together, the team shot a season-high 47 percent.

UNI connected on 47 percent of its 3-pointers, lead by Jacqui Lewis, Jess McDowell (14-points) and Sharnae Lamar (11 points). Together the three combined for 39 of UNI's 63 points.

The Panthers took a 43-42 lead after McDowell's 3-pointer capped a 12-4 run. 

ASU countered with a 10-3 run of their own and grabbed the win and are now 1-2 on the season.

The Sun Devils play Saturday at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout when they take on N.C. State.
