PHOENIX - The Sun Devils are adding some new color to their uniforms this season: copper and anthracite.
Arizona State University unveiled the new football uniform option on its website Monday morning. It says the inclusion of copper honors the state's history as a copper-producing state.
The football program "wanted to create a unique way to expand the school's image and honor the state's heritage, as well as uphold the university's brand standards," according to the website.
The uniforms consist of a copper chrome facemask, decals and a copper chrome strip down the middle. This is the tenth helmet design for the Sun Devils within the last three seasons, according to ASU.
ASU athletics said a specific game of when the uniforms will be worn has not been selected yet.
"We are one of the top few teams in the nation with as many looks and combinations as we have, and this plays an important role in building a national fanbase and molding Arizona State University into a household name,” said Head Coach Todd Graham in a prepared release.
