Arizona State assistant athletic director Sherman Morris resigns following arrest

TEMPE, AZ - Arizona State announced on Tuesday afternoon that assistant athletic director Sherman Morris has resigned following a domestic violence incident at his home.

ASU said in an email to ABC15 that Morris resigned from his position at the university on Friday.

ASU placed Morris on administrative leave following his arrest.

Chandler police charged Morris with one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault-strangulation following the incident on August 28th.

According to a Chandler police report the incident occurred on August 28th when Morris grabbed his wife from behind and lifted her off the ground with one arm around her neck during an argument at their home.

Morris allegedly punched her twice with a closed fist, breaking a tooth and cutting her chin.

The victim's adult son was able to separate the two.

The victim then went to the police department to make a report and Morris was taken into custody at his home.
