The Dust Settles: Newlyweds go on Katie Show to talk about dust storm wedding day disaster

It's the day little girls imagine will be perfect.  It's all about the dress, the groom, and in this case, the weather.

"I always wanted an outdoor wedding.  That was the one thing that mattered," Jennifer Luna told ABC15.

When Gus Luna and his fiancée, Jennifer, found the Windmill Winery in Florence, AZ, they knew that's where they wanted to be married.  But, on their wedding day,  the wind started to pick up.

"My matron of honor was trying to hold my veil, hold my dress, hold her flowers," Jennifer said.

"I looked up and, oh my god, it was already on us," Gus remembers.

"All of the sudden, I see Gus's face just go from smiling to shock," Jennifer recalls. "I turn to see this big wall of dust starting to come. I was like, well, here we go."

And suddenly the storm hit, ironically, during the "Unity of the Sand" ceremony, where the couple poured sand into one vase, symbolizing the unity of marriage.

"We actually had to put them behind the pillars to keep from breaking," says Jennifer. "And, then, the vows.  I think we got through them all. We did the kiss! It was a fast kiss."

Video of the wedding ceremony went viral on YouTube and that's when the national whirlwind began.

"We've been on the Weather Channel, Tosh.O," Gus says.

And they just got back from doing the Katie Couric show, which airs on February 14th as part of a Valentine's Day Special called Unforgettable Weddings

The Luna's wedding was certainly unforgettable.

"At the time, I wasn't that upset.  But, then, I was like, man, what the heck happened to our wedding day?" Jennifer says.

A year and a half later, Gus and Jennifer look back at their wedding day with a smile, always remembering what's really important in life.

"We'd waited 10 years to finally do this. Our ultimate goal was to get married and that's what we accomplished," Jennifer says.
