YCSO searching for thieves who stole copper from 20 light poles

Yavapai County Sheriff's Officials are asking for the public’s help locating suspects that removed copper wire from 20 light poles near Cordes Lakes.

 The copper wire was removed from light poles positioned on the east side of the on ramp of Interstate 17 from State Route 69, YCSO spokesman Scott Mascher said.

The suspects accessed the wire by removing the lid to a box revealing conduit and exposed wire, Mascher said. The suspects then pulled the copper wire out of the conduit to steal.

The theft likely occurred during the evening hours of Feb. 6 or Friday, Feb. 7, he said.

The thieves stole $13,888.35 worth of copper wire, connectors, fittings and fuses, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Cordes Lakes is located about 66 miles north of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
