PAGE, AZ - Work to rebuild and reopen a northern Arizona highway partially closed for more than a year by a landslide will begin this month.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says the work to rebuild part of US 89 between Bitter Springs and Page is being scheduled in the wake of the state Transportation Board's approval of the $25 million project.
The highway section was closed Feb. 20, 2013 when a 500-foot section of roadway buckled about 25 miles south of Page.
ADOT says the roadway will be moved approximately 60 feet away from the landslide, with a downslope buttress built to support the area.
The project is scheduled to be completed before next summer.
Navajo Route 20 has been paved and designated Temporary US 89 to provide a detour.
